Part 3 of ISO 20000 includes guidance on the scope applicability of the IT Service Management System (SMS) as defined in Part 1 of the Standard (ISO 20000-1).
The guidance in this Standard takes the form of practical examples, typical scenarios, and recommendations that show how the scope of an SMS can be defined, whether or not you have experience of defining the scope of management systems.

ISO 20000-3 is useful for service providers, consultants, and assessors as it provides practical guidance on scope definition, applicability, and demonstration of conformity to the requirements in ISO/IEC 20000-1. Guidance on the different types of conformity assessment and assessment Standards is also included.
ISO 20000-3:2012 also assists in planning service improvements and in preparation for a conformity assessment against ISO 20000-1. It supplements the guidance on the application of ISO 20000-1 given in ISO 20000-2.
