ISO/IEC 38500

Published in June 2008, ISO/IEC 38500 is the international standard for IT Governance. The standard can be applied to any organisation, anywhere in the world, and it sets out a clear and easy to follow framework for an organizations governance of Information and Communications Technology. The standard aligns IT with organizational decisions and is particularly useful to directors and senior management.

Calder-Moir Framework

There are many IT standards, frameworks and methodologies for managing IT. On their own none of them however are a complete IT Governance Framework. The Calder-Moir Framework is designed to maximize the benefit from all these integrated and overlapping standards, frameworks and methodologies. Calder-Moir is also aligned with ISO 38500 and adopts its best practice guidance.

ITIL®, CobiT® and Val IT

ITIL®, CobiT® and Val IT are all vendor-neutral, third party frameworks. Whilst they are not complete IT Governance frameworks on their own, they each have their own IT governance strengths.

  • ITIL (the IT Infrastructure Library) is the UK's Office of Government Commerce's best practice for IT service management. ITIL is used all over the world, read more on our ITIL information page >>>
  • CobiT (Controlled Objectives for Information and related Technology) assists organizations in implementing effective enterprise wide IT Governance. CobiT's Management Guidelines feature a framework for controlling and measuring IT against CobiT's 34 processes. CobiT 4.1 is the latest version whilst Governance of the Extended Enterprise details how many major brands have implemented CobiT and the business benefits it has delivered.
  • Published by the IT Governance Institute Val IT is a framework that provides a set of principles and processes for IT portfolio management. Val IT has a major concern with realizing the value from IT investments.
